Mobile show line up

Keynote speakers at the next big European mobile bash, the 3GSM World Congress, will include the following company bosses:

Arun Sarin, Vodafone Group
Antonio Viana-Baptista, Telefónica Móviles
Sanjiv Ahuja of Orange
Peter Erskine, 02
Steve Ballmer, Microsoft
Bill Roedy, MTV
Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, Nokia (CEO elect)
Carl-Henric Svanberg, Ericsson
Ed Zander, Motorola
Mun Hwa Park, LG Electronics Mobile Communications

The exhibition and seminar programme is expected to attract more than 40,000 telecoms executives, including over 6,000 CEOs, according to the organisers, Informa and the GSM Association.

The event, which sees mobile executives networking into the small hours, will be held in Barcelona for the first time from 13-16 February. The gossip this year is likely to be about whether the show retains its unique character after its transfer from Cannes.

Though overpriced, and with the world’s laziest taxi drivers, Cannes has a certain louche charm and some good late-night bars. But it simply did not have enough space for all the companies that wanted to exhibit there.

Dear Joia,

I was wondering if you were still going to 3GSM next month. The reason I ask is that industry veteran and former Yankee Group analyst Sanjay Mewada has joined our company to lead its global strategy and market initiatives. I’d love to set up a brief meeting with you and Sanjay at 3GSM to talk about trends in the telecommunications market and how carriers are facing increased pressures from their shareholders to stay competitive and maximize their internal IT investments, and need to remain competitive by offering new services faster and more efficiently.

Sanjay’s background makes him a great resource coming from both the internal and analyst side. Prior to the Yankee Group, he worked at MCI, Intelstat and the World Bank in product management and technology evaluation functions. He was involved in launching new products at MCI and Intelsat. At the World Bank, he recommended and financed telecom projects using mobile technologies in diverse markets in Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe.

Please let me know if you are interested in meeting with Sanjay to share thoughts on the telecom market for 15-30 minutes at the show, either at our booth or off show hours for coffee or a drink. Given your tremendous insight into the market, I wanted to see if we could be a resource and share ideas. I've been hunting for your contact information and came across your blog so I hope you are not offended that I am trying to reach you this way.

Thanks for your time.

Best regards,
