Microsoft sings a new Zune

Microsoft on Thursday revealed new details about Zune, its answer to Apple’s iPod digital music player. It says users of Zune will be able to download and share music wirelessly when it becomes available in the run up to Christmas.

The US software company’s announcement follows news from Apple that users of its new video download service will be able to stream films (downloaded using a PC) to a TV set.

The service will require an iTV device at the TV end, which the BBC business website, says is the size of four CDs.

On Thursday analysts at Piper Jaffrey were speculating that Apple could be planning to launch a mobile phone with Ipod music and video features within months.

NBC, the US TV network company, has also launched a clearing house for digital video.
